A short page about me

design at the intersection with empathy and storytelling

Hi! I am Seba.

I am passionate about collaboration and travelling. As a designer I try to give back inspirations that people give me as meaningful experiences.

I love reading! Here are the three books about design that I am reading right now, maybe they can be useful to you too!

I am always looking for new insights and inspirations on how to make it easier for people to do great projects!

My journey until now

I am an Italian Service Designer born in 1993. I started out in design as an Industrial Designer and wanted to contribute with design on a complex project from start to finish.
After some work I found my opportunity. I co-founded a start-up, DomeSens, offering new services to manage urban green. I did not feel knowledgeable enough on services, therefore I decided to enroll in the master's degree in Product Service System Design at Politecnico di Milano.

Protyping on field of our sensor for trees' stability measurement. DomeSens' product was energy independent thanks to a photovoltaic film.

During my master’s degree I had the opportunity to participate in Politong Double Degree program between my university and Tongji University in Shanghai, where I lived for a year and a half. The people that I met in this journey have been a tremendous inspiration for me, from a professional and human standpoint.

Me and my friends designed a new museum area for locals in Sichuan province. Thanks to the numerous workshops and user centered approach we eventually won two prizes.

Being able to create real impact in a community so far from my own made me really happy of the practice of design and its potential. A short while after my start-up ceased operations.
Both these experiences taught me a lot about collaboration, and ultimately oriented me toward an approach of inclusion.

I was invited by my good friend Suyog Risbud (TheFunIndianGuy) on his podcast, in which we talk about my experience in China.

Going back to Italy, I graduated in Service Design in October 2019, closing up my Double Degree and fueling my desire for new projects and meaningful contributions.

My takeaway

I believe that, to make Design that makes sense, it is necessary to employ empathy across projects and life. Meeting with other people and making new expriences are for me two of the most important things in Design, as creating value means to interact with people in a way that enriches their lives. Especially now, as designers we must do what we can to contribute to projects, by reducing risks and working with the final users.

A view from a Shanghai's apartment
A view from my home in Shanghai, exploring different contexts made me realize that empathy is the first quality of a designer.

Now I want to continue explore ways to do design that can be inclusive and meaningful, studying the Design Sprint, workshops and everything in between.

Thanks for reading, I hope we can talk in person!
